I’m so excited to share with you that I have a new book of poems coming out! Generic Husband is coming out on October 8th from Louisiana State University Press.
the cover of Generic Husband by Rebecca Hazelton. A top down view of a man mowing a grassy lawn.
I wrote the titular poem, “Generic Husband,” way back in 2016, and was honored to have it appear in the New Yorker. I started writing more and more husband poems after that poem, because there was something about the idea of a husband that I just couldn’t pin down. There are so many husbands, after all. Movies, novels, and sitcoms promise us perfect husbands, aspirational husbands, sexy husbands — but also childish husbands, cheating husbands, dangerous husbands— and there’s no telling what kind of husband a husband really is until you’ve pledged your troth. Will he cook you breakfast in bed? Or will he lock you in the attic?
The husbands in my book spill over the pages. They wear suits and assume. They are tender. They are regretful. I hope that you will enjoy my take on husbands: beloved, troublesome, queer.
You can pre-order my book directly from the press, your local bookstore, or Bookshop.
